National design and construction company Mott MacDonald Bentley (MMB) has been recognised at Northumbrian Water’s ‘Going the Extra Mile’ – or GEM – Awards.

Held at the Beamish Hall Hotel in County Durham, Northumbrian Water’s GEM Awards recognise the achievements of their framework partners during the past year.

MMB was acknowledged in five GEM awards categories in all.

The tireless efforts of MMB’s Peter Brodie were recognised by Northumbrian Water as they jointly-awarded him the Individual Contribution prize.

Mechanical and electrical engineer Peter, who has worked at MMB since 2005, has worked tirelessly to deliver projects to a high standard, driving value, working closely with the supply chain and ensuring those around him are happy and engaged.

Success for MMB continued into the evening, as they were highly commended in the Team of the Year category for their minor works sub-programme at sewage treatment works across the region.

Working closely with fellow contract partner Interserve, MMB has provided a high standard of service when delivering both planned and reactive works. A genuine team approach has helped ensure the right solution is delivered on every site. By working together, efficiencies of over £1.1 million have been achieved.

MMB’s work on the ‘Water UK’ security programme secured finalist places in both the Health and Safety and Programme of the Year categories, and work to safely abandon assets secured a place in the final of the Environmental Sustainability category.

The recognition is just reward for the team’s efforts over the past eighteen months, which saw MMB named by Northumbrian Water Group as one of five partners that will deliver water and wastewater work worth up to £500million during the next five years.

Operations manager, Peter Long, said, “It is excellent that the hard work of the team has been recognised by our long-term client, Northumbrian Water. The team has worked tirelessly in recent months to get AMP6 off to a safe and successful start.

“With a new office on the horizon and plenty of exciting schemes on the decks, it is a great time to be working in the north east.”
