To facilitate the training of their linesmen, we worked with National Grid to construct a new training overhead line at their training facility at Eakring, Nottinghamshire. Pictured is Alrewas Gas Compressor Station, where we carried out remedial works and inspections to critical valve and pipeline facilities, and enjoyed unprecedented success in receiving two 100% audit scores from our client. We repaired 40m of river bank along the River Yarty in Devon to protect pipework, which had the potential to be exposed through fluvial erosion during abnormally high water levels.

Energy

As we have gained traction across the National Grid Minor Works and Gas Asset Health Frameworks, we have delivered increasing amounts of civil infrastructure works.

JN Bentley has been working with National Grid on the Gas Asset Health framework since early 2014. The framework involves mechanical, electrical and civil engineering across National Grid’s portfolio of UK assets, and evolved in 2016 to now include ‘design and build’ delivery.

We have also delivered a number of projects through National Grid's Minor Civils framework, delivering works such as concrete slabs, access tracks, gantry/metalwork installations and fencing/walling.

We’re delivering integrated projects with our colleagues at Mott MacDonald, including our largest National Grid project to date at Carnforth Compressor Station in the North West of England, and a package of telemetry replacement projects around the country.

Alrewas

At Alrewas Gas Compressor Station, where we carried out remedial works and inspections to critical valve and pipeline facilities, the team enjoyed unprecedented success in receiving two 100% audit scores.

The scope of works consisted of inspections to the vent and sealant lines with remedial works undertaken as required. A number of pit wall transitions were also inspected, again with the possibility of remedial works taking place. Finally, we undertook painting and re-coating of sections of small bore pipework to bring them up to standard.

Eakring T-Pylon

To facilitate the training of their linesmen, National Grid proposed the construction of a new training overhead line at their training facility at Eakring, Nottinghamshire.

The proposal comprised eight new T-Pylon test structures. The line spans approximately 1km over undulating land, which had previously been used for agricultural purposes. In order for this work to be undertaken and for the future maintenance and testing works, enabling works were required, including the provision of access tracks to each pylon location.

Reinstatement Works

National Grid overhead lines between Cellarhead, Macclesfield and Daines substations were in need of various reinstatement and civil engineering works.

The project entailed works on fourteen separate sites across Staffordshire, therefore careful planning and programming was required in order to ensure efficient delivery of the schemes. The major tasks undertaken included concrete slab works, minor concrete muff repairs, field gate and fence repairs, topsoil reinstatement, access track reinstatement, road repair, trial holing and tree surgery.

We repaired 40m of river bank along the River Yarty in Devon to protect pipework, which had the potential to be exposed through fluvial erosion during abnormally high water levels.

River Yarty Repairs

The purpose of the project was to repair around a 40m stretch of the River Yarty river bank in Devon.

The project's aim was to protect pipework in close proximity to the river, which had the potential to be exposed through fluvial erosion during abnormally high water levels. As part of the repair solution we rebuilt the rock revetment at the toe of the bank and relay, and fully compact the bank itself to provide significant protection of the pipework.
