Our work with the Waste Recycling Group has seen us construct waste cells, undertake capping works and deliver infrastructure schemes across Yorkshire, East Midlands and the North East.
About us
We have a long-standing relationship with Yorwaste which dates back to the 1990s, which included the construction of a new leachate treatment plant.
The scope of the works for the project comprised of the construction of nearly 2.5km of 125mm sewer running from Skibeden Landfill Site to the foulwater manhole in Regent Road, Skipton. Laid in the verge of a major highway, road crossings were constructed, together with access points and connections into existing sewer infrastructure.

Our landfill works involved hundreds of thousands of tonnes of bulk earthmoving.
For example, at Welbeck Landfill Site, located in West Yorkshire, the site was the subject of sand and gravel workings and subsequent overfilling with colliery spoil from Sharlston Colliery and the Selby Coalfield, so JN Bentley was engaged to construct three new cells. The work was completed by means of cut/fill of materials to specified formation levels, and installation of a composite lining system.

The project was delivered as part of an Alliance framework agreement with SITA UK in the North-East of England. The brief was to design and construct the compound infrastructure to facilitate the operation of the site and satisfy all regulatory requirements including PPC, Planning and Building Regulations.
We utilised recycled stone in gabions used in retaining walls, and provided a new ecological habitat for Sandmartins and Dingy Skipper Butterfly, in liaison with the county ecologist.

Following completion of the new household waste recycling centre, the old adjacent recycling centre was converted and refurbished into a new council depot.

Digital delivery
These frameworks have delivered feasibility, design and construction services principally for landfill operations, but we also have significant experience in the design and construction of household waste recycling centres and waste transfer stations. Our expertise has seen us deliver landfill engineering, leachate treatment, composting and liquid treatment projects.
A key ingredient of our success lies in our understanding of client requirements in respect of the regulatory framework that governs their operations – particularly the considerations of the Environment Agency.
We are keen to harness our expertise from the water sector to support waste operators in the design and construction of process plants for waste recycling and treatment.
