Another successful year at the British Construction Industry Awards for Mott MacDonald Bentley

Mott MacDonald Bentley (MMB) have enjoyed a successful night at the prestigious British Construction Industry Awards (BCIAs).

MMB was awarded the ‘Upgrade and Renewal Project of the Year’ Award for their refurbishment project delivered with United Utilities, at an important water treatment works in the North West.

The esteemed BCIAs honour the top projects and companies within the industry. This year’s event gathered over 1,000 of the UK’s foremost companies, consultants, and contractors for a night of celebration, recognition, and networking.

The project’s goal was to enhance the water treatment facility to maximize its output and lower the average treatment cost, making it the most cost-effective asset in the region. The team successfully navigated numerous complex challenges during the project, thanks to outstanding collaboration among key stakeholders, including design and commercial teams, our in-house site workforce, the client, and supply chain partners.

A judge stated:

"An impressive delivery of critical infrastructure, utilising digital tools to consider both whole-life carbon and climate change. The presentation gave a good insight into working practices on site and the collaboration of the team."

MMB Design Lead, Daniel Sutcliffe, shared his thoughts:

“It was a fantastic evening at the British Construction Industry Awards and an amazing result to pick up this award for Upgrade and Renewal Project of the Year, for our North-West Water Treatment Works Upgrade scheme. It was an absolute honour to collect the award on behalf of the many people who worked tirelessly on this project over several years - including our directly employed workforce and supply chain partners - without whom we couldn't have achieved the outcomes we did.”

A further congratulations to our MMB colleagues who received the high commendation in the ‘Environment and Sustainability Initiative of the Year' category, for their innovative and sustainable approach to water pre-treatment by implementing floating wetlands at Witches Oak Waters.

MMB and JBA Bentley, our environmental focused design and build business, also received several nominations:

  • Carbon Net Zero Initiative of the Year: Mott MacDonald Bentley’s Low Carbon Solutions in Design (MMB)

  • Environmental Project of the Year: Outstrays to Skeffling Managed Realignment Scheme (JBA Bentley) – also shortlisted by the judges for the special NIC (National Infrastructure Commission) Design Principles Award

  • Environmental Project of the Year: Holderness Flood Alleviation Scheme (JBA Bentley)

  • Utility Project of the Year: Draycote Reservoir Drawdown Enhancements (MMB)

Congratulations to all those shortlisted and this year’s winners.
