JN Bentley secures two-year Canal & River Trust extension

UK civil engineering contractor JN Bentley has secured a two-year contract extension with the Canal & River Trust.

The agreement will see JN Bentley deliver complex works across the north of the Trust’s iconic network of historic waterways and assets until at least 2028 – with the potential for further extensions thereafter.

Rewarded with the extension following strong performance since appointment to the contract in 2022, JN Bentley remains the only contractor working on complex assets on the north of the Trust’s network.

This includes significant repair and restoration projects at reservoirs, embankments, culverts, tunnels and aqueducts – such as ongoing works to upgrade the overflow spillway at Slaithwaite Reservoir in West Yorkshire.

Director, Angus Ridge, said: “The extension of our contract with the Canal & River Trust is just reward for the hard work and skill of our project teams.

“From a standing start, they have developed strong relationships across the Trust, who see us a strong supplier who can deliver projects safely and on time.

“I’m delighted that we are repaying the trust that the Canal & River Trust has put in us to deliver important projects across their network and look forward to seeing the relationship continue to develop in the years to come.”

As part of a second framework with the charity, for non-complex civil engineering works, JN Bentley has also delivered important towpath improvements, such as that at the iconic Five Rise Locks in Bingley and in the UNESCO World Heritage town of Saltaire.
