Mott MacDonald Bentley achieves industry-leading carbon standard
Mott MacDonald Bentley (MMB) has achieved PAS 2080 Constructer certification, adding to its existing Designer accreditation to demonstrate whole-life carbon management across both design and construction.
Together with JN Bentley, MMB has achieved PAS 2080 certification across both Designer and Constructer disciplines, becoming one of the first UK tier 1 contractors to do so.
The milestone reflects the successful integration of whole-life carbon management principles across MMB’s frameworks, projects, processes and teams, demonstrating an independently verified approach to reducing carbon throughout the infrastructure lifecycle.
To achieve the accreditation, MMB welcomed an independent assessment of the company’s carbon management systems and how they are applied on live projects across all operational areas of the business. Projects assessed as part of the certification process demonstrated how project teams are embedding whole-life carbon management principles into construction delivery. The assessment recognised the practical application of carbon reduction measures, collaboration across project teams and the ongoing identification of opportunities to reduce emissions throughout the delivery lifecycle.

MMB's PAS 2080 Constructor certification builds on a programme of work launched in 2022 to embed whole-life carbon thinking into the way projects are designed. Through the low-carbon solutions in design programme, the business introduced new processes, training and tools, including Moata carbon portal, to help teams identify, quantify and deliver lower-carbon solutions. By establishing a consistent approach to carbon management across project delivery, the programme created the platform from which PAS 2080 Constructor certification has now been achieved.
PAS 20280 is the globally recognised standard for carbon management in buildings and infrastructure, providing a framework for organisations to reduce emissions through collaboration, innovation and informed decision-making throughout project delivery. By achieving certification across both design and construction, MMB can now demonstrate an independently verified approach to whole-life carbon management, supporting clients in meeting their own decarbonisation ambitions while reinforcing the business’ commitment to delivering lower-carbon infrastructure solutions. This achievement further strengthens the role that carbon reduction plays alongside safety, quality, programme and cost when planning, designing and delivering projects.
